Fenrir is for the moments when you are done sanding down your edges to make yourself easier to hold. The wolf does not ask permission to be what it is; it moves by instinct, keeps its own counsel and knows when to stay with the pack and when to stand apart.

Named for the great wolf of Norse myth, Fenrir is a talisman for trusting your own nature, taking up the space that belongs to you and keeping hold of the parts of yourself that were never meant to be domesticated.

Each Fenrir pendant is individually finished by hand, preserving the irregularities and texture of the original claw.

The solid silver gives the piece a substantial presence when worn, while the oxidised finish draws out the surface of the claw and gives it a darker, more ancient feel.

All materials are thoughtfully sourced and each piece is made with care, in a way that aims to tread lightly on the earth.

Some Thorn & Claw pieces are cast directly from natural forms and may retain sharper edges or natural irregularities. This is part of their nature. Please wear and handle them with care.

THE MYTH

Fenrir is the great wolf of Norse mythology, born to Loki and the jötunn Angrboða. As he grows, the gods become increasingly fearful of the strength they see in him and eventually decide he must be bound.

Fenrir breaks the first two restraints placed on him. The third, Gleipnir, appears little more than a ribbon, yet it is strong enough to hold him. Suspicious of the gods’ intentions, Fenrir agrees to be bound only if one of them places a hand in his mouth as a pledge. Týr accepts the risk and loses his hand when the gods refuse to release the wolf.

Fenrir remains bound until Ragnarök.

His story has endured because there is more in it than simple ferocity. It is also about fear, mistrust and what happens when something powerful is treated as dangerous because it cannot be controlled.

From claw to talisman

Fenrir begins with a single wolf claw.

The original was carefully lifecast so its exact form could be carried into solid sterling silver: the point, the ridges and the natural irregularities of the claw itself.

Nothing has been softened into a generic symbol of a wolf. The form comes from the animal.

That gives Fenrir something a sculpted imitation cannot quite have. It still carries the physical character of the source: raw, tactile and unmistakably wild.

Each talisman is handmade to order and will usually be ready to ship within approximately 4–6 weeks. During especially busy periods, this may take a little longer.
