Ferae - Silver cat claw necklace in solid sterling silver
This handcrafted cat claw necklace symbolises wild sensuality, our feral nature and a spirit that refuses to be domesticated in our modern world.
There is something about the cat that has always resisted possession. It can sleep at the foot of your bed, press its body into your hand, then disappear into the dark as if it belongs to another world entirely.
Softness with claws. The instinct to come close, and the freedom to leave.
Ferae is for keeping a little of that wildness with you.
Wear this talisman when…
- You want to trust instinct more than expectation.
- You are learning where closeness ends and self-possession begins.
- You want something intimate, sensual and just a little dangerous.
- You feel at home in the cat’s strange mixture of tenderness and independence.

Ferae is one of the smallest Thorn & Claw talismans. Its scale makes it easy to wear every day, almost like a private piece of armour hidden at the throat.
A single silver cat claw pendant, perfectly sized to wear as a subtle daily talisman, or to layer together with other pieces. Delicate, yet dangerous. A subtle daily talisman for those who feel deeply connected to cats and the wildness they keep so close to the surface.
The natural curve of the claw gives it a fine, animal sharpness without making the piece feel heavy or ornate.
All materials are thoughtfully sourced and each piece is made with care, in a way that aims to tread lightly on the earth.
Some Thorn & Claw pieces are cast directly from natural forms and may retain sharper edges or natural irregularities. This is part of their nature. Please wear and handle them with care.
THE MYTH
Cats have always walked the veil between the domestic and the uncanny.
They live beside us, but never quite seem to belong to us. That independence has made them objects of fascination for centuries, and in British folklore it often pushed them towards the supernatural.
By the medieval and early modern periods, cats had become closely entangled with ideas of witchcraft and familiars. They were imagined as companions, messengers and creatures with access to places beyond ordinary sight.
Older traditions carry a different kind of reverence. In ancient Egypt, cats were associated with Bastet, a goddess of protection, fertility and pleasure, and cat-form amulets were worn as protective objects.
Different cultures gave the cat different meanings, but the fascination is remarkably consistent.
It remains close to us while keeping something of itself withheld. Ferae belongs to that withheld part.
From claw to talisman
Ferae begins with a single cat claw. The original was lifecast so the natural curve, point and tiny irregularities of the claw could be carried into solid sterling silver without losing its delicacy.
At this scale, the form feels almost secretive. A small flash of silver at the throat, recognisable only when you look closely.
The claw needs very little interpretation. Its beauty lies in the contradiction already there: fine enough to disappear into fur, sharp enough to break the skin.
A small piece of the animal, held in silver.

You can choose between a ball chain or belcher chain, with multiple lengths available to suit how you like to wear your pieces. Chain length is the total length of the chain from end to end.
- 18–20" sits around the collarbone, with 20" resting close to the heart and being the most commonly chosen length.
- 22–24" falls slightly lower on the chest, ideal for everyday wear or layering.
- 26–30" creates a longer, more statement silhouette, especially suited to larger talismans.
If you’re unsure, 20" is a balanced and widely loved choice. If the length doesn’t feel quite right, I’m always happy to exchange your chain.
